Over the front: the Great War in the air
Australians played a part in aviation’s remarkable advancement during the First World War. In the clear skies over the Western Front in France and in the Middle East, young men fought in flimsy machines of wood, canvas, and wire.
This exhibition brings history to life with a range of extraordinary and original aircraft and an exciting visual depiction of military flight.

1918 began badly. The terrible Passchendaele fighting had left the Australians exhausted and under strength but the will of a nation spurred them toward victory. An exhibition featuring maps, photographs, art, medals plus an 18-pounder field gun and an exposed portion of a British Mark IV tank from the final days of the Great War.
