Milne Bay Military Museum has risen from humble beginnings as a collection of souvenirs from 25 Battalion veterans who had served during World War I and II and in particular, the Battle of Milne Bay in 1942.
This significant battle is said to have saved Australia from invasion by the Japanese.
We offer talks by World War II veterans – these must be booked in advance.
Features of the Museum include:
· Full size replica World War I trenches
· Milne Bay gallery
· Changi/Burma-Thai Railway display
· Walk of Remembrance, dedicated to World War I soldiers
· Individual soldiers’ stories
. A replica of the Red Barron's Tri-plane
. A dedicated 25th Battalion history room and Roll of Honour
. (soon) A Korean, Malaya, Vietnam room.
The collection over the years has grown to include all theatres of World War II, as well as the Boer War, World War I, the Korean and Vietnam Wars (opening in May 2008), and more recent conflicts.
This museum is operated and manned solely by volunteers, so if you would like to become a volunteer and serve the commnity you will be most welcome.
